Onco (Cancer) Surgery

Cancer surgery is often the most important step in treating solid tumours. I provide precise, compassionate surgical oncology care working closely with patients and their families at every stage, from diagnosis through to recovery.

What Is Oncological Surgery?

Oncological surgery involves the surgical removal of cancerous tumours and affected surrounding tissue. The goal is to eliminate as much of the cancer as possible while preserving healthy tissue and organ function. Surgery may be the primary treatment or may be combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or targeted therapy depending on the cancer type and stage.

Cancers Treated

  • Colorectal Cancer (colon and rectal tumours)
  • Breast Cancer (lumpectomy and mastectomy)
  • Stomach (Gastric) Cancer
  • Liver and Hepatobiliary Cancer
  • Gallbladder Cancer
  • Abdominal and Soft Tissue Tumours

Colorectal Cancer Surgery

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers requiring surgery. Early detection and timely surgery significantly improve survival rates. Patients are counselled thoroughly on preparation, the procedure, and post-operative bowel recovery.

Breast Cancer Surgery

Surgical options for breast cancer include lumpectomy (removal of the tumour and a small margin of surrounding tissue) and mastectomy (removal of the entire breast). The choice of procedure depends on tumour size, location, and patient preference. I ensure every patient understands her options fully before any decision is made.

Stomach and Gastric Cancer Surgery

Gastric cancer surgery involves partial or total removal of the stomach with advanced stapler device depending on the location and extent of the tumour. The procedure is combined with removal of nearby lymph nodes to assess and limit the spread of cancer. Post-surgical nutritional support and dietary guidance are key parts of recovery.

Liver and Hepatobiliary Cancer Surgery

Surgery of gall bladder cancer, biliary bypass, triple bypass etc.

Abdominal Tumour Surgery

Abdominal tumours including spleen, retroperitoneal tumour, GIST and soft tissue tumours are approached with both oncological precision and patient safety in mind. Each case is assessed individually with imaging and biopsy reports to plan the safest surgical strategy.

The Patient-Centred Approach

  • Every patient receives a full explanation of their diagnosis and surgical options
  • Treatment plans are discussed with the patient and their family before proceeding
  • A multidisciplinary approach is followed coordinating with oncologists and radiologists
  • Psychological and emotional support is considered an essential part of care
  • Follow-up schedules are clearly communicated from the very first consultation

Before Surgery

Prior to any cancer surgery, I review all diagnostic reports including biopsy results, CT scans, MRI and blood investigations. A detailed pre-operative assessment ensures the patient is medically optimized for surgery and that the surgical plan addresses the full extent of the disease.

Recovery and Follow-Up

Recovery from cancer surgery varies depending on the type and extent of the procedure. Most patients require a hospital stay of 3–7 days. I provide detailed post-operative care instructions and schedules regular follow-up appointments to monitor healing, review pathology results, and coordinate any further oncological treatment required.

When to Seek a Consultation

  • You have been diagnosed with cancer and advised to consider surgery
  • You have unexplained weight loss, bleeding, or a palpable abdominal mass
  • You have a family history of colorectal or gastric cancer
  • You are seeking a second surgical opinion before proceeding with treatment

Early surgical consultation leads to more treatment options and significantly better outcomes. Do not delay seeking an evaluation.
